South Cheriton to Bayford

29/7/18 Another long bus journey via Yeovil's wetherspoon. We alight at the White Horse and soon join the Monarch's Way again. The plan was to follow it to Wincanton and initially the signs were there to help us. We soon lost those and wondered around various fields looking for clues. We did find a path and followed it to a road. We were heading in the right  direction and rediscovered signs for the path only to lose them again in the next field. We went through an overgrown kissing gate straight into barbed wire. We did find the path one more time and then lost it just as quickly. Eventually we came out on a more busy road and walked into Wincanton at least an hour later than expected.

The Nog Inn is the first pub we come to. Inside they appeared to be catering for the shabby chic. We had pleasant enough pints of Summer Lighthning (5%) and Sharps Own (4.4%) for £7.50. Just up the hill from here is The Bear Inn.

More of your average pub drinkers in here. We had pints of Doom Bar (4%) and Exmoor Ale (3.8%) for £6.60 and a game of pool. Just a bit further along the road is Uncle Tom's Cabin.

This listed, thatched pub in the middle of Wincanton certainly feels older than your average pub and is reassuringly un-corporatised on the inside. We had pints of Blindmans Backstreet, I think, Beer (4.2%) and Dorset IPA (4%), which the barmaid kindly changed for me, for £6.20. Time was starting to go against us and so decided to walk on a bit.

We are walking along the old A303 here and the dual carriaged bypass is below us. We only get as far as Bayford and the Unicon Inn though.

We have pints of Bob (4%) and Barn Owl (4.5%) for £6.90 in this cider house. The landlord and clients were welcoming and one gentlemen called Jack eventually talked us into having a couple halves of cider from "out the back".

We were now further behind schedule and even though we started to walk on, we realised that time was against us and we headed back to the centre of Wincanton before the long trip home.
